The LIFE SUGAR project, in which Stara Glass is leader, aims to develop a glass furnace with total energy recovery: this is achieved by expelling exhaust gases at the lowest temperature technologically possible. In this way, energy, instead of being lost, is recovered and re-introduced within the glass production process, with potential energy savings greater than 15 percent and, therefore, containment of CO₂ emissions.

Our technological solution involves using waste heat from flue gases to fuel a steam reforming reaction, which is useful for the conversion of natural gas from the furnace into hydrogen.
